I tried to transfer data from ms sql server 2012 to mysql using sql server export, but could not find mysql connector ODBC 5.2 on the distination dropdown. I already have mysql connector ODBC 5.2. Any ideas on how to make it work?
Thanks.

I am by no means a MySql expert. Can you import it from the MySql side? You may have to do a two step process. First export from sql to csv and then import that to MySql.
A quick google search revealed there is not a direct way to do this with the native tools. It seems there are quite a few free tools out there that can import/export from sql server to MySql.

Thanks for the idea. I might have to export to a CSV file before importing into mysql. However, from my research, it seems it has to do with 32bit ODBC not surfacing in the odbc administrative tool of a 64bit operating system. It is a general problem, and not by any means new. Thanks once more for responding.

You don't specify how you transfer data, but if you're using SQL Server Import and Export Wizard you need a 32 bit ODBC-driver.
There's two ODBC Administrators:
32 bit %windir%\syswow64\odbcad32.exe
64 bit %windir%\system32\odbcad32.exe
General rule:
32 bit software uses 32 bit (ODBC-)drivers
64 bit software uses 64 bit (ODBC-)drivers
