Thanks,

In what area??
There are way too many answers to that questions... Where do you need help with?
I'll also be humble for once in my life and I won't put my name in here .

Remi's correct, there are many. He may be humble, but I can tell you I consider Remi and a good sized handfull of others on SSC as the 'Best Experts'. The guys here on SSC can hold their own with any 'best experts' that anyone will name in this thread.

Best overall.
Maybe specializing in high-performance and availability. Knowledge of 2000 & 2005.

In 2000 get the Ken Henderson books for the OLTP end of the product and Ken England Performance tuning book, in 2005 start with the BOL(books online) it is the best in the business , then get coffee in large bookstore and browse because I have seen a lot of books you may need more than two for 2005. Hope this helps.

Knowledge is one thing, expertise is another and application of these even more tantamount. I feel that the 'best' expert is the mentor that can guide and educate you !

There are many... too many to list. But if you're looking for someone to come in and shore up your shop, look either to the Solid Quality Learning folks or Kimberly Tripp (SQLSkills.com).

I think it would be Microsoft's SQL Server Development Team, see this article on this site:
http://www.sqlservercentral.com/columnists/sjones/spotlightonsqlserver.asp
only looking up this article I realized that it is the same Jim Gray on the picture in the article who is missing - see the the front page of sqlservercentral.com

Thanks for everyone's comments.
Any ideas on how to get hold of Kimberly Tripp? I've been unsuccessful with email and phone.
Thanks,
Ember

I'm not sure I consider the Microsoft guys the experts for a shop using SQL Server. They've developed it and know the ins and outs of the code better than anyone, but not sure they have the best ideas or knowledge of how to apply that for a business problem.
I think they are a number of experts out there that can help. In the UK, I'd look to Itzak Ben Gan or Tony Rogerson for T-SQL help. For SSIS, I'd look to the Conchango guys. They seem to be quite talented in that area.
In the US, The Solid Quality People, SQL Skills people, or my old partners here (Brian Knight and Andy Warren) are people I'd look to. That's not to say there are many others who I'd hire if I needed help.
