I am using MSDE 2000 as database engine. I use Installshield X to distribute MSDE 2000. My set up installs e'thing. I have enable network protocol option (availablewith SP 3). I am facing 2 problems now. 1. I am not able to connect to my database from other computers over network. I can connect to database from local computer. 2. When the network cable is plugged in, and when network connection is enable, at that time,if my application tries to connect to local database, it searches for the database on network... and so it's very slow. as soon as I disable network, it connects to local database normally.
I am useing named instance. I have check default port is opened for TCP protocol..
Any quick help on this would be highly appreciated...

1) Is there a firewall in between (like xp sp 2 firewall)?
2) Can you connect via ipadres\instance name?

There is no fire wall inbetween, and I can't connect using even ipaddress\instance name. The second problem is, if I try to connect to the local database, with local area network enabled, then it tries to check on network first, and so very slow performance. As soon as I just disable network connection, it works fine on local database. May this additional information help you...
