Call me an old fuddy-duddy or a luddite, but...
I trust AI about as far as I can throw the datacenter(s) it runs in. Granted, both of the issues in the editorial are "people" issues, not "AI" issues, but there's also a report out that "OpenClaw," the vibe-coded (strike 1) AI assistant that can reply to emails, schedule things, and more for the user has a vulnerability (since patched) where it's trivially easy for an attacker to elevate privileges to admin.
Which, considering said application has significant access to the users' system, is concerning, to say the least.
It leads one to wonder what other landmines are hiding in both AI-written / vibe-coded applications and in the AI's themselves. Considering how much of a "black box" many AIs are, how frequently they'll confidently claim something they've hallucinated (and this leads to another problem,) and how good / bad any training data is, I suspect there's a LOT of landmines waiting.
As for the hallucinations and confidence of the AIs, there's an article on Ars Technica from Friday about "cognitive surrender" where people trust what an AI tells them without questioning it in the least, no matter what's being claimed.
One just has to wonder if, or when, this trust in LLMs / AIs is going to implode...
