Anyone has tried to install SQL server 2008 R2 express edition?
When doing installation, does the manangement studio comes with it or it is a separate download and installation?
Also by install express edition, does it also install a BIDS for 2008R2 too?
Thanks

The management studio is not with it. You have to install separately. :ermm:

Thanks, how about BIDS?

NO. For express edition, only replication comes with it.

Thanks, it seems in order for us to do development using BIDS, we have to buy developer edition

If you download and install the SQL Server 2008 R2 Express with Advanced Tools, Management Studio does come with it.

I can't remember. You could try downloading & installing it, and seeing if BIDS is in the install checklist?
That and SSMS can be installed at the same time as the database engine itself.

You need the express edition with advanced services based on the comparision between editions.
