Hi,
I'm setting up a backup plan using UNC paths to a thecus drive.
I plan to create a device for each day of the week and backup up all our DB's to said device each night. The following week i wish to overwite the contents of each device so they don't grow indefinitely....is this straightforward to do ? is it just a case of chosing an option to overwrite the contents of the device
Thinking about it i'm going to have to set up 5 plans here as i can't think it would be possible to write to a different device each night from just one plan.
Am i over complicating matters here - maybe there is a better option here...
Regards,
Mike.

It would be simpler to just create a maintenance plan and let it create a new backup file each time and delete files older than a week.
Backup devices are really a holdover from earlier versions of SQL Server and I can't think of a good reason to use them.
