Disk alignment on a VMDK

    Hey all,

    Anyone have a clue about Disk Alignment on a VMDK with SQL Server? We have a machine with 4 VMDKs - 1 for each of 4 drives. Our tech guy doesn't seem to think he needs to align the partition at a windows level. I think we need to. We will be holding tests to check.

    In the meantime though I'd like your opinions? Everythign I read points to best practise is align EVERYTHING!

    Yes, it definitely is best practice to align your physical disk partitions with how SQL operates. If you don't, you will end up with a system that is working much harder than it needs to.
