Account name change???

  • When the heck did a number get added to the end of my user name?

Is anyone else having this issue? Suddenly I'm not "Brandie Tarvin", I'm "Brandie Tarvin-356073"?????

    What happened?

  • Thanks, Silverfox. Though my bet is that someone has a bot that's going around spoofing people. I know of no other person with my first name that spells it the way I do. Everyone else spells it differently. "I", "Y", "E", "EE", but no "IE"s, which is what makes me think the site was hit with a spam registration attack.

I've been seeing a lot of that lately on another site I mod where accounts have to be approved by the moderator before they can get access to the forums.

  • Interestingly enough, not a single other "Brandie" member account has a single post to their names. Most don't even have visits recorded. 3 have points to their names.

The other "Brandie Tarvin" has a created date of 2004 but minimal points and shows as a rookie, which tells me maybe the data got duped or it is a spoof account.

I wonder how many other people have this issue.

  • a couple of people noticed they registered themselves twice...could that be your issue as well?

if you joined, then joined again, your first "original" account keeps the first name, but all your additional logins get your Id added/appended to the end.

could you have originally joined on a different email than you think you used?

  • Brandie,

The person published an article here is the thread with the article, SSC had to do it because some names comes up 148 people with the same name. karthikeyan the PHD candidate was complaining but as you can see the name is like John Smith in English

  • I believe you are allowed to change your user name.

  • Lowell had it right. Apparently, way back when I was switching contract jobs on almost a daily basis, I must have registered and totally forgotten about it.

Steve is frying my evil wanna be clone right now. None of you will see double again! @=) At least, not when it comes to me. @=)
