There are a number of us on LinkedIn. There's even a SSC group there.
Personally I prefer to keep connections and especially recommendations to friends or people that I have worked with. For forum discussions, I'd just give the person a link to my profile here at SSC. That way they can see the discussions I've participated in.

More than a few of us on are Linked-In. It is like Gail said though, I would only recommend someone after a pretty long relationship that involves more than a few posts to a newsgroup.

I think showing off your profile and discussions is great for your resume if you've contributed positively in these forums. Send a link to your list of posts (available from your profile).
