Derived Column - Source and Destination Table are the same

  • The source table (Customers) contains these three columns:

    Customer_Code_and_Name

    Customer_Code

    Customer_Name

Customer_Code and Customer_Name are empty, I want to update these two columns with a substring of the Customer_Code_and_Name.

I thought that the easiest way to do that is a derived column transformation.

    Source: Customers

    Transformation: Derived Column

    Destination: Customers (again)

Now I am getting double entries in the destination table. What am I doing wrong? I expected an update of the existing rows, not adding new rows...

    Thanks!

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.
