I have now got a work around by putting the results of the sp into a temp table then, as the data is always only one row, assigning the variable...

I've updated the stats and this reduces the value to be nearer zero but still a lrage negative value.
dbcc sqlperf(logspace) gives :

I'm having a similar problem but the error is "operating system error 112 error not found".
Again - I've got more than enough disk space 114 Gb on NTFS 136 Gb drive....

Thanks for your comments. I think the biggest issue is what was going on in the back ground on both the servers. There quite large differences in the back ground...
