Let me rephrase that a bit... domain1\dummyuser is a domain user. Administrator is not and can therefore authenticate.

You have 2 domains. Say you have domain1\user and domain2\user. Just because they are both named "user" does not mean they will authenticate properly. You cannot, without special cross-domain...

Have you changed any of the service logins outside of SQL Server Configuration Manager? If you have, they may not have the required permissions...
