You can start the job with sp_start_job and wait for its completion in a loop.

If the job exceeds the timeout you set, stop it with sp_stop_job.

ErWin is a good product, though a bit expensive.

What about SSIS? I see it as the most sensible option here.

I've seen systems where regular DWH processing is being halted during the load window.

This way they free up resources on the dwh server and run ETL at that box...
