I have folloing query
select sum(yy) sumyy, 'summary line' xx
from tablea
where somedate_column < @startdate_parameter
union
select yy, xx
from tablea
where somedate_column between @startdate_parameter and @enddate_parameter
Is there a better way to achive this...

If the databases are on the same server you can do this by using the full naming convention.
[database].[schema].[object]
If they are on different servers you will need to setup link...

To add another reason for not storing dates as integers, doing any kind of date math means your queries are going to be slower. Just look at the simple example...

There are probably some other ways to do this but this should work.
