Ensure you present any shared storage to the second node and then open the sql server installer and select the option "Add node to a SQL Server failover cluster" 😉

Incorrect, bring the resources online manually from failover cluster...

2. Why ever destroy the existing chain by performing a second full backup other than for purely space or management reasons?
Full backups DO reset the Differential Base LSN, so...

Theres a vast difference in the licencing costs from Std to Ent, if all you want is compression then Redgate's SQLBackup...

For the instance to start it needs to have a master db present, i use the tact above and then make sure to restore a full system backup set once...

Yes, it is necessary. Rebuild the system databases, start SQL, restore the backups of the system DBs.

It's not clear what your issue is. If you used the GUI to initialise LS why are you trying to restore the secondary database?
Detail the exact steps you have taken...

what you should have done is to take the group offline and move it to Node A, then try to bring the resources online one at a time in this...
