Why are you archiving the data monthly?? How much data do you have to move to make this a worth while experience?

Select * from task where replace(Descr, char(13), '') like '% myword %'

This will force a scan but it should work (unless you have char(10) in the return too)

No need for dynamic sql here.. why can't you do the job in the trigger?

You don't need the active column, this is something you can calculate either in the select or in the application simply by comparing with the current time.

Have you refreshed in EM?

What are the differences in the execution plans? Do you see a plan where there are a few millions rows transfered where there should be only a few 100K?

run sp_updatestats. EM uses the sysindexes value to avoid counting every table when you query that info, however that info is not always absolutely up to date.
