Is the number of rows/page gonna be dynamic at some point or will remain static. How large is that large dataset?

You'll have to create an update trigger and add to the actual count, the number of times that the row was updated in the batch (can be more than once)....

The real question should be : "Should I denormalize or not?", not the other way around. On the long run, the wasted ressources caused by not normalizing the schema...
