I can't explain this one...
Simple concat takes 500 times longer than select *, yet for xml is just as fast as select *.

rebuild does an update stats as well. reorg doesn't touch the stats.
If you can work the stats in your schedule, just do it. Autoupdate stats is good, but...

The db will use the space it needs to store the data you ask it to store. Nothing you can do about that.

That code eon't work on compatibiliy level 80 you need 90+.
Also the dbname is concatenated only once, but used twice in the code.

Try Annual_Salary / 12.0 (the .0 cast to decimal)
