u can create a batch to do so just write this in:

net start MSSQLSERVER. if u have a default instance.

if u have a named instance just replace the MSSQLSERVER with...

u can also use the maintenance plan to do so..

cluster server, log shipping, database mirroring or so..

am using sql 2005 with a good backround in Oracle.

here in sql 2005 there is no hot or cold backup, if u search the help for backup what u find...
