Cardinal Moden is an excellent resource in the fight against RBAR. I must admit to having learned quite a bit from his excellent mentoring via SSC.

Sometimes REPLACE isn't the right tool for the job. I agree with Jeff, just convert to an INT.

Wrong, 1 month. This will also return 1: datediff(mm,'2009-01-31','2009-02-01').
