If your table is partitioned (only in Enterprise Edition if I'm not mistaken), you can easily swich out an older partition. This goes really fast.
Otherwise, you can use the DELETE...

When using .mdf files, isn't attach the preferred method instead of backup?
Backup is intended to restore .bkp or .trn files, if I'm not mistaken.

Database mirroring uses endpoints to transfer messages with TCP.
