I've done the MCTS BI exam in November 2010 and the MCITP BI exam this January, and I didn't notice anything abnormaly difficult. Maybe different region equals different questions?

Maybe there is a blocking issue because you are updating and inserting in the same table at the same time, while one of the processes has a table lock?

Check the properties of the connection manager. There is a property ConnectionString. Look into that one, it normally has the provider listed.
