Another approach to avoid empty rows is to write a SQL statement to your Excel worksheet and use a WHERE clause with IS NOT NULL on a certain column.

Nice question, but answer number 4 was also incorrect, as both are of the geometry datatype.
A polygon can also be a geography datatype, but according to MSDN, Linestring is geometry.

You can easily check the number of files in a directory using .NET in a script task.
Use the GetFiles() method of the DirectoryInfo class.
