Any reason you are not using SSAS for this?
Aggregate fact tables can be useful, but make sure you are not creating a new table for every new report.

Without the table DDL and the execution plan, all we can do is guess.
Maybe you don't have the right indexes and you are doing scans instead of seeks...

Check out Power View, the flashy looking self-service BI dashboarding tool. Power View is available in SharePoint, but also in Excel 2013 (but the data needs to be in Excel)....

Yes, the secondary database is always accessible and readable.
You have to transfer the CDC change rows yourself though. SSIS 2012 has special components that help you with this.

You could use partitions, but since you have only 1 data source this would mean setting up linked servers, which I would try to avoid (performance wise).

If you have too many measures, you can exclude the derived measures unless they are really complex to calculate.
If they are easy to calculate, the front-end can do it.
