I think you can configure the report field to remove decimal places. Could be wrong, but I think I remember doing that at one point.

You can get Visio to diagram a database pretty easily and use that to print, export, etc., files.
RedGate also has a product that can do a pretty good job of...

I recommend taking a look at the section in Books Online on Common Table Expressions. There's a very good example in there of resolving this type of hierarchy.

Yeah, that should be fine. Shrinking might cause more of a lock, but growing isn't usually a problem.

I have to admit to being lazy about formatting and capitalization. I have a relatively consistent format, but I can't say that it's the easiest to read.

I can't recommend a text editor. I type 100+ words per minute, so haven't found much use for intellisense, shortcuts, et al.
