    By "IT SHOULD HAVE A HEADER", do you mean a row at the top that just says, "IT" (or whatever)? Does it also get column headers?

    I did that in SQL 2000, so it's not new.

    It's a performance killer, but it's not a new one.

    This kind of thing is one of the valid reasons to use...

    Copy-and-paste the When...Then statements into Management Studio.

    Ctrl+H (Search-and-Replace) for "when", replace with "union all select".

    Key/Value is how I've done that.

    Using the SQLVariant datatype might help, or might not, but is worth looking at. But really, converting a few values from varchar to int...

    Nvarchar can go up to 4,000 explicitly, or to "max" (as long as you're on SQL 2005 or later), which allows for a LOT of characters.

    So long as your varchar...
