If the "standards" have to be paid for, they are obviously copyrighted intellectual property. That means that following them puts you in a position of potentially violating copyright. ...

Either will work, since you won't be dividing by numbers high enough to cause rounding errors. Both are horrible ideas. Why not store the dates as dates?

I wouldn't bother with this level of complexity. Audit the tables individually. You can use timestamps and the usual Join criteria to audit related changes in related tables.

Move the bit about the SIC code to the Where clause instead of the Join clause. See if that does what you need.

Not really. Since you need data compression at both points, you're pretty limited on your options.
