Are you trying to update a table based on a separate call to that same table? That'll result in a deadlock. I've seen that before in SSIS.

What version of Windows are you running it on? Some earlier versions have to be patched (or have SQL Server patched) in order to run later versions of SQL...

There really isn't a cookie-cutter "best practices" answer to those questions. It's all very dependent on the business needs and resources.

If you want to stick with something similar enough to Access to be easy to learn, but more robust, secure, et al, go with VB.NET. That'll give you good...
