Good find Gus, I must have used the wrong search words or search engine - or both!

In a way though, that sort of begs the question: I wonder how...

Then that makes sense for Virginia.

But I'd like to know more about Colorado - especially since I'm lucky enough to live here now. 🙂

    Steve, maybe you could let...

I think ApexSQL and Lumigent produce log parsers.

At around $1000 for a single license.

RedGate used to, but I don't think they do any more.

    They have one for SQL...

There are a lot of terrific people in SQL who I don't know. So I'm sure the winners were great.

Anyway, I was surprised by this map. Guess...

GSquared (12/28/2011)No, I agree with you. In a database that's loaded purely by a scheduled ETL process (or more than one), there's no reason to worry about...

I don't see how RCS would be a problem in a data warehouse\datamart application.

If there are no inserts/updates/deletes happening, then there are no row versions being generated...

In a warehouse, TBH Read Uncommitted or NO LOCK is not as bad as everyone says. OK, I have said it. You can all start cussing me... 🙂

We have a lot of that same logic (using updlock/rowlock) riddled throughout our 3rd party code (coreCARD) and it's there because of the way the transactions are being processed....

I'll assume you haven't got any sort of data auditing turned on, otherwise you wouldn't need to ask about it. That's the best way, but that's hindsight for you...

Both of those solutions will work on very small datasets. If your database will ever have a larger number of rows, either of those will choke performance-wise.

  • RE: Is There Any Reason I Should NOT enable READ_COMMITTED_SNAPSHOT?

I can't say I'd use RCS on a warehouse under any circumstance I can think of.
