    I'd query each account number, and then cross apply to get the date with the most records for each.

    I don't think WriteText/UpdateText work on the (max) datatypes. They do work on Image, but you're right that it's unusual to do so.

    RCSI really puts SQL Server running in a similar mode to what Oracle does by default, which is really what all robust modern RDBMS platforms should...

    It occurred to me that you could do exactly that (forget about transactions) by setting the transaction isolation level to SERIALIZABLE. (Sometimes I just amaze myself...

    When I need to read from one table and write to another, but can't do it in a single query.

    I've had to do that in a couple of complex queries...

    I suppose it doesn't help that sometimes re-attaching the database files works, like if you're re-installing SQL Server and just make sure the files are where...
