    Indexes on a foreign key have nothing to do with referential integrity, the foreign key ensures that. If you're suggesting dropping the foreign keys, don't.

    Then you can take any combination of file or filegroup backups and providing you have an unbroken log chain covering all of them, you can restore from multiple file/filegroup backups...

    Depends on IO throughput and database size mostly. A backup to my external drive over USB 2 is not going to be as fast as a backup to an SSD.
