    As long as the databases are on the same instance, there's no performance difference between joining tables in 2 databases and joining 2 tables in the same database.

    Error 112 is "not enough space on the disk"

    As a wild guess, I'd say there isn't enough free space to write the backup.

    Shouldn't

    Dropping the index will remove that index from the DMV, but shouldn't clear it. Taking the DB offline, closing it, detaching it, restoring it will all reset that DMV.
