Jonathan's blog post (which I referred you to in the previous thread) described Storage Server. That's what he uses on all his virtual SANs

That's your grand total.
This should be clearer
SELECT CASE GROUPING(type_desc) WHEN 1 THEN 'Total' ELSE MAX(type) END AS Type, COUNT(*) AS NoOfObject, type_desc
FROM sys.objects
GROUP BY ROLLUP(type_desc)
ORDER BY GROUPING(type_desc), MAX(type), type_desc

It's because you have the rollup over two columns. This probably does what you want.
SELECT MAX(type) AS Type, COUNT(*) AS NoOfObject, type_desc
FROM sys.objects
GROUP BY ROLLUP(type_desc)
ORDER BY MAX(type), type_desc

That is not what I asked for. The column names aren't in that and they are the most important part. I can't conclude anything from the name of an index

Not an answer, but what's wrong with Microsoft Storage Server (for iSCSI targets)? It's free and it's easy to configure.

sys.partitions is a per-database view. Not per-server. That join is only a valid one if you're running that in the DB that has the locks.

The partition_id and object_id are database-specific, they're not server-wide values. sys.partitions is per-database.
I get the correct names only if I run that in the context of the DB that the...

How many rows does this return?
