As far as I can tell, updating a row and not actually changing the values does not mark the page as dirty, meaning it won't be written back...Gail Shaw

Check the SQL error log. The reason for the failure to startup will be in there (unless it's a login failure, those are in the windows application event log)

Index names are only unique per table. It's quite possible to have the same name for an index on multiple tables.

Restore files and filegroup doesn't sound like something you want to do. That's for piecemeal restore and partial restores, not simple database restores.

Why not simply:Create Index IndexName on schema.tablename (columnlist)with (drop_existing = on);
Because that does not work if the index does not exist.

They recover in parallel. Multiple spids are spawned to recover each of the user databases. User databases will only get recovered after the system ones are recovered.

Before you go and set every DB to simple recovery, make sure that simple recovery is acceptable for your disaster recovery and backup strategies...
