    What happens when the mirror server is down AND t-log is backed up before the mirror comes back?

    Nothing special. The log is backed up, but can't be truncated because...

    32 bit to 64 bit could probably be done, I don't see a good reason to do that though, it's asking for odd problems.

    Mirroring between versions can be done, but...

    You can use most of the new functionality without raising the compat level. Compat level's about preserving old behaviour, not preventing new.

    Is the ltrim and rtrim necessary? SQL ignores trailing spaces when comparing string columns, if you have leading spaces it's probably better to clean up the data if possible.
