    Alternatively, change the recovery model to bulk logged just before the load and back on completion thereof.

    however, this will require a full backup before and after.

    Take the backup of the server locally and transfer it to the laptop. If you would like to automate you can do so by creating job.

    I can understand why one backup of a read-only db might be needed, but would subsequent backups be necessary or relevant, as nothing would have changed?..
