Some gotchas: Oracle treats an empty string as NULL, SQL does not.
is that always true? My memory is that we finally developed two sets of code because oracle would switch...

There's a lot of "stuff" wrong with any new product like this... I would just document it and get on with the rollout... developers can deal with problems... maybe one...

I can only provide the link... seems to me that you aren't reading the MS supplied article that says you must add the switch. That is just one link......

I would start by seeing what is currently in sysservers... and if the desired server is not there, I would use the sp_addlinkedserver procedure they name in the message to get...
