You can't have two different data types in the same column, your effectivly saying I want DATETIME and VARCHAR data in the same column which is not allowed.

If also not familiar lookup WITH ROLLUP, its another one to look at along with WITH CUBE, both produce different outputs so need to ensure you choose the right one,...

Thats becuase you probably wont have anything that is equal to the date being used in the where clause
You really need to do an >= < where clause
