Seriously, if you do a good backup and read ALL the install instructions, you've done most of what you can do. I usually check here and the MS newsgroups...

Sure, to some extent. It also becomes just a matter of quantity. You end up with so much data you can't do much with it without summarizing it anyway.

Depends on what you're using to backup. If its strictly a file backup that doesnt understand how SQL works, no it won't work. Im curious, why can't you backup?

I haven't seen the 'EnterpriseMessage Table' part before. Timeouts are pretty common, usually means you need to look at your indexing strategy.

No, it does updates, though you can override this and request the insert/delete behavior. If you have any doubts about whats going on, profile it!
