Cant argue with that really. Having the option to set column collations really makes SQL2K more than nice to have compared to the all or nothing in earlier versions.

We had enough space to do the in place upgrade. Once it was done, we moved the data off, formatted and reinstalled clean. Nothing like a fresh install!

You can upgrade directly. There is little difference between 7 & 2000 and the upgrade is painless, you'll just save time going to 2000 directly.

You have to add the NT group as a login, then add that login to your db with appropriate permissions.

Double check the db_denyreader and db_denywriter roles, may have everyone in those.
