GO is a QA construct. Try separate executes or just delimit with a semi colon.

Not bad! Couple ideas I can add. One is to avoid the limitations of the timer by using date and datediff. In VB you'd put a DoEvents inside your loop...

Try using an XML document, then do the insert using OpenXML.

SQL Compare from RedGate is decent. Havent tried it on anything reallllly complicated, but so far its done well for me.

Running in a transaction? Normally once you've gotten all the results back the connection stays open but sysprocesses will say the spid is sleeping.
