Agree. The way to avoid is to put the proc in each db (if you can) and when you execute, fully qualify the proc - dbname.owner.procname.

It does sound like a permission issue. Does the subscriber login you're using have execute rights on that proc? Try temporarily adding the login to db_owner, see if problem goes...

Detaching just cleans up sysdatabases and sysfiles. Nothing at all wrong with stopping the server, copying the files to a different server and attaching. Doesn't affect anything. You'd use detach...
