Best thing to do at this moment is to post both execution plan.
In SSMS activate 'show actual execution plan' in your query toolbar.
Then execute the query.
Select the execution plan tab,...

Just a little warning if you want to do this using a trigger :sick::crazy:
- a trigger is always executed "in transaction". If the trigger fails, your whole original transaction fails!!...

do you also need to "decrypt" these columns ?
If you answer is "No" or "I don't care rubbish is published", just put blancs or NULL in your columns, or "censored"...
