what is the big deal about installing SQL to c drive?
we have some servers we inherited from a company we bought where the C drive is 2Gb or 4GB...

we do weekly fulls for most databases with nightly diffs 4 times a week
small db's 1GB or less get a nightly full 4 times a week and no diffs. less...

we're usually not as nice
if we do a side by side upgrade we tell people the cut off for R/O access. then we backup and restore on the new hardware....

checked it and there are a few instances where the run_duration is -954439548
it will start two instances at the same time. one will finish OK and the other one...

not sure about native SQL backups, but with Netbackup you can do page verification during the backup and restore if you have it set up on the database

there is a constant tape/disk battle here and i've used both. i'll take tape any day over disk.
in the last 9 years i've seen less than 5 tapes go bad...
