Thats cool. Not a SQL question now but how would you control the 'heartbeat' - that controls which server is the live IP etc ?

So I could set up transactional replication between the two lives servers to keep them upto date. Allow windows clustering to deal with IP's etc.
That allows a failover at live.
Then...

I`m advising our mangement that upgrading is not the way forward as I don`t believe the application will work correctly. For example the concept of locking seems to have bypassed...

I had thought that. But there is no activity at all for 40 mins. The log goes from starting tempdb. Then 40 min gap, then starting next database.

I have altered the linked server to run off the sa password and it works fine. Not sure why it won`t map a login properly....
