Yep be very careful before you run that on a production box. It can help in extreme circumstances but like Grant has mentioned it impacts on performance considerably.

windows is the securest option if you can do it, mixed is a compromise and will in the longterm generate more work for yourself.

you can deny/remove rights to/from the public role, we have had to do that before as part of auditing and compliance.

not really I would say that your sql server had the trigger created by someone/team as part of auditing requirements
