Your existing ODBC should still work with very few changes (interoperability was ODBC's goal). Have you tried it?

The SYSOBJECTS table is really a SQL2000 compatibility view and cannot represent everything in SQL2005 100% correctly. In particular, it cannot represent the SQL2005 separation of Schemas & Owners...

A really simple option which is able to take advantage that "age" is a number......
select distinct name, age*1000, sex
