I would use Replication. This is exactly the kind pof thing that it was intended for. I really don't see that roll-your-own triggers would add anything.

Like this:

UPDATE Template_Dir

SET Template_Path = Replace(Template_Path, '\\SERVER1\Reports', '\\NEWSERVER\Reports\')

WHERE Dept = 'HR'

Delete *.* ???

I think that what you may really need here is something called a dynamic dimensional model or dynamically updated cube. However, the details and statistics are really important...
