Yes. And with that many Filegroups, you should check the file assignments & locations carefully when you do the restore.

OK, how about using the Aliases in SQL Server Configuration Manager, under "SQL Native Client Configuration"? I am not sure if this works or not, but it's worth a...

For what it's worth, I tried it on SQL Server 2008 and saw no difference.

Before I suggested any other way to do this I really would want to know why backup & restore is not sufficient.

The focus in recent years has been on Partitioned tables instead of Partitioned Views, so I suspect that there jst are not that many people using them and even fewer...
