You have LOG scales instead of LINEAR. LOG scales must be positive, they cannot be negative or even zero (it's a math thing).
Also the "zero point" of a LOG...

Well, I am not proficient with LINQ, but in T-SQL, we would do it like this:
Select COALESCE(DropOffDate, DeliverDate) as MergedDate
From order
Order By MergedDate

You could put a Key on the table (Primary Key, Alternate Key/Unique Index) to prevent this. That is what they are for.

Although multiple Select's should not normally deadlock, I would certainly think that it was possible for...

That should work.
My guess would be that something is different/wrong with the content of the two columns. Please post the CREATE TABLE definition for the table and some INSERTs...

A SSIS package does not have to be scheduled through SQL Agent, it can run on it's own entirely outside of SQL Server.
As such you can schedule it...

Agreed. I don't disagree with the Surface Area principle (Use less and Disable what you aren't using) to minimize exposure, it's one of the core principals of modern computer...
